YPI Summer Music Camp 2008

Space is limited in order to preserve a strong teacher/student ratio. Financial aid is available to students with exceptional talent, as well as student internships for mature high school and college students who are advanced in their field. In the past students from all over the country and even from around the world have attended these camps.


What: Oakland Music Camp: $360
When: July 14-18, 2008, Monday - Thursday: 9am-3:30pm. Friday: 9am-7pm
Where: Northern Lights School, 3710 Dorisa Avenue, Oakland 94605
For: Young singers and musicians in grades 3-10 who want to further their skills in singing and playing in a jazz/blues/rock ensemble.

What: San Francisco Rock Camp: $425
When: August 4-10, 2008, Monday - Sunday: 1-5pm
Where: Slanty Studios, 3779 25th Street, San Francisco, CA 94124 & Secret Studios, 2200 Cesar Chavez Street, San Francisco, CA 94124
For: Ambitious musicians and singers ages 11 & up who want to form a band and put on a rock concert in a classic Bay Area venue.

 

What: Marin Jazz,Pop & World Music Camp:$425
When: August 11-17, 2008, Monday - Friday: 1-5pm; Saturday & Sunday: 1-4pm
Where: St. Stephen's Church, 3 Bay View Avenue, Belvedere 9492
For: Talented young musicians and singers in grades 3-12 who want to acquire new music skills and put on a full-scale public performance in just one week.



Directed by Leela Pratt, Young Performers International offers students a chance to do something challenging, authentic and fun. YPI's diverse cultural and socio-economic mix lends both richness to their project and poignancy to their message.

Young Performers International is a non-profit children's performing arts company with branches in San Francisco, Alameda, and Marin counties. YPI provides after-school music education programs including jazz/rock band, chorus, percussion ensemble, and individual instruction, and summer music camps specializing in rock, jazz, pop and world music.

Over the past seven years, YPI has donated free music programs for children in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, held percussion classes in the Juvenile Hall system in southern Marin County, and created scholarships to teens from Bay Area group homes as well as to students from low-income families in Oakland, San Francisco, and Marin.
