3/14/07 Young Performers International returns to San Francisco City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, on Wednesday, March 14 at noon with a fresh and upbeat program of pop, jazz and world music. Ranging in age from six to eighteen, these young singers and musicians hail from all around the Bay Area, and cover a wide socio-economic spectrum, in support of YPI's mission statement: To create a community among the children of the world through music and the performing arts; To provide for all children, regardless of their economic status, the best instruction in these arts. And through this, to inspire in each child a sense of competence, self-confidence, fulfillment, and an open heart. Accompanying themselves on drums, bass, guitar, recorder and clarinet, the cheerful music and happy demeanor of the Young Performers International students cannot fail to brighten your day. They are directed by Leela Pratt, longtime Bay Area music director and children's advocate, and supported by a phenomenal lineup of musician/teachers, including Sunshine Becker and Bryan Dyer of SoVoSo, and Barbara Bogatin, cellist for the San Francisco Symphony. Don't miss this inspiring and heart-warming event! 2/2/07 The fresh, authentic voices of Young Performers International will be heard on Friday, February 2 at 4:15 at the Argent Hotel in San Francisco, singing in support of the forum Facing Violence: Justice, Religion and Conflict Resolution. Madeleine Albright and Eli Weisel are keynote speakers. The young singers, ages six to eighteen, will perform an all a cappella set that includes music from Zimbabwe, Israel, and the Arab Nations, as well as John Lennon's anthem "Imagine", sung in American Sign Language, the language of the deaf. Their music will include exquisite three part harmony as well as complex and evocative vocal percussion. Directed by Leela Pratt and accompanied on bass and soprano vocals by Bryan Dyer and Sunshine Becker of SoVoSo, a spin-off vocal band from Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra, these young musicians will lift your heart and give you hope for the future of the world. They hail from three Bay Area counties, and their diverse cultural and socio-economic mix lends a poignancy to their message of peace.
